Top Selling Pokémon Cards on TCGplayer: August 2025

The first step to serving customer demand is to understand it. So to help you follow what’s currently popular with players and collectors, we’ve put together a pair of downloadable CSV reports of the top-selling Pokémon cards of the past month.

These reports show the name and set of the Pokémon cards with the highest total number of copies sold on the TCGplayer Marketplace between August 1 and 31, 2025. The reports consider cards from different sets to be distinct (even if they have the same name), but do not distinguish copies sold by condition (Near Mint, Lightly Played, etc.) or by printing (Foil, etc.).

The two reports cover cards that had an average sale price in August within two ranges: $50.00 or more, and $1.00 to $49.99.

Here are five highlights from each report.

Top Selling Pokémon Cards: $50 or More

#1 Mew ex - 053
Set: Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards
Average Sale Price: $56.06

This promo card, originally distributed in the 151 Ultra-Premium Collection, has been the target of buyouts all year. But a relatively small buyout on August 14 (3.4 copies per buyer) was the last straw that finally set Mew’s price soaring. Now that it’s over $50, it qualifies for this part of the report.

#2 Kingdra ex - 131
Set: Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards
Average Sale Price: $55.94

August 14 was also the day of a huge buyout on this promo card from the Kingdra ex Special Illustration Collection, during which the average number of copies per buyer climbed to 16.0. That pushed this Kingdra’s Market Price to over $50, qualifying it for this part of the report.

#3 Charizard ex - 223/197
Set: Obsidian Flames
Average Sale Price: $72.72

Another buyout, this time on August 26, pushed the average number of copies per buyer on this Obsidian Flames chase card to 3.7. Charizard ex 223 would have qualified for this part of the report even without the resulting price spike, but the surge in sales from the buyout helped it rank above the 151 chase cards that have dominated the report for the last few months.

#4 Blastoise ex - 200/165
Set: Scarlet & Violet—151
Average Sale Price: $67.35

Speaking of which, Blastoise ex 200 and the other Special Illustration Rares from Scarlet & Violet—151 are still here. They’re just selling at a regular pace, a bit slower than the buyout targets that have taken over the top slots.

#5 Greninja ex - 132
Set: Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards
Average Sale Price: $51.56

Like Mew ex and Kingdra ex above, Greninja ex 132 (from the Greninja ex Special Illustration Collection) was targeted by a buyout on August 14 that pushed the average number of copies per buyer up to 16.0. That prompted a price spike that pushed it over the $50 threshold for the first time.

Top Selling Pokémon Cards: $1.00 to $49.99

#1 Victini - 208
Set: Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards
Average Sale Price: $8.09

Distributed in the Unova Victini Illustration Collection which released on August 1, this Victini has been the target of speculators all month. The number of copies of this card sold regularly outstrips the number of buyers, with the average number of copies per buyer reaching a high of 14.2 on August 18.

#2 Hilda
Set: White Flare
Average Sale Price: $3.23

On the other hand, the demand for Hilda appears to be entirely organic. The new Supporter allows players to search out Special Energy cards, and has quickly become a staple in Dragapult decks like the one that Justin Newdorf piloted to second place at the 2025 World Championships.

#3 Pikachu
Set: Celebrations
Average Sale Price: $5.95

Buyouts have also played a part in Pikachu’s inclusion on this list for the second month in a row. This mouse from the 25th Anniversary set has been bought in huge quantities in August, with the biggest sales day on August 29th pushing the average number of copies per buyer up to a staggering 33.5.

#4 Arven - 166/198
Set: Scarlet & Violet Base Set
Average Sale Price: $2.37

Arven is a two-for-one search card that shows up all over the Pokémon TCG’s Standard format. Along with this version, Arven has been printed as an Uncommon in Obsidian Flames, but the Scarlet & Base Set version has more listings on TCGplayer and is consequently cheaper.

#5 Air Balloon
Set: Black Bolt
Average Sale Price: $1.67

Air Balloon was reprinted back into Standard in Black Bolt, and immediately reclaimed its status as a competitive staple.
