Top Selling Magic: The Gathering Cards on TCGplayer: August 2025
By Peter Day •
The first step to serving customer demand is to understand it. So to help you follow what’s currently popular with players and collectors, we’ve put together a pair of downloadable CSV reports of the top-selling Magic: The Gathering cards of the past month.
These reports show the name and set of the Magic cards with the highest total number of copies sold on the TCGplayer Marketplace between August 1 and 31, 2025. The reports consider cards from different sets to be distinct (even if they have the same name), but do not distinguish copies sold by condition (Near Mint, Lightly Played, etc.) or by printing (Foil, etc.).
The two reports cover cards that had an average sale price in August within two ranges: $50.00 or more, and $1.00 to $49.99.
Here are five highlights from each report.
Top Selling Magic Cards: $50 or More
#1 Tezzeret, Cruel Captain (Borderless)
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $55.331
With zero color restrictions and three abilities that support the second-most popular type of Commander deck, Tezzeret, Cruel Captain has become the third-most popular Commander card from Edge of Eternities. Oh, and he’s good in Tron too. No surprise that people want the card of the guy whose face is on all the boxes.
#2 Ancient Tomb (0001) (Borderless)
Set: Edge of Eternities: Stellar Sights
Average Sale Price: $91.65
This reprint from the Stellar Sights subset immediately became the most affordable version of Ancient Tomb on the Marketplace, so players are picking it up while they can.
#3 Sliver Overlord (Showcase)
Set: Special Guests
Average Sale Price: $54.49
As with Ancient Tomb, this reprint is now the most affordable version of Sliver Overlord around—though some Commander players may have been okay with paying extra for this special version illustrated by James Bousema.
#4 Agatha's Soul Cauldron
Set: Wilds of Eldraine
Average Sale Price: $54.06
Agatha’s Soul Cauldron is the most expensive piece of Izzet Cauldron, the current boogeyman of Standard. By exiling Vivi Ornitier, the Soul Cauldron can give every other creature you control the ability to generate mana equal to their power. From there, it’s pretty hard to lose.
Cauldron’s price spiked hard after Paulo Vitor Damo Da Rosa popularized the deck during Pro Tour: Final Fantasy in June, and prices have only recently calmed down—possibly in anticipation of an emergency ban on Vivi.
#5 Bristly Bill, Spine Sower
Set: Outlaws of Thunder Junction
Average Sale Price: $58.81
Bristly Bill was popular and valuable in Commander before FINAL FANTASY released, but the explosion of landfall cards in recent sets like Tifa Lockhart, Traveling Chocobo, and Icetill Explorer has given Commander players even more reasons to seek out Bill. That pushed Bill over the $50 threshold and qualified it for this portion of the list.
Top Selling Magic Cards: $1.00 to $49.99
#1 Mountain (0265) (Borderless)
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $1.47
Adam Paquette’s sci-fi full-art basic lands from Edge of Eternities have been a huge hit, joining the Theros Beyond Death lands and the Unstable lands as some of the best-selling basics in Magic.
#2 Swamp (0264) (Borderless)
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $1.29
Paquette’s Swamp ranks for the same reason as Paquette’s Mountain…
#3 Island (0263) (Borderless)
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $1.14
…and so does Paquette’s Island.
#4 Icetill Explorer
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $13.96
Adam Paquette’s Plains and Forest likely would have filled out the last two positions on this list, but because their average sale price in August was under $1, they don’t qualify.
Instead, we have Icetill Explorer, the most popular new Commander card from Edge of Eternities. Icetill Explorer provides ramp and card advantage in one tidy package, and few green decks would be better off without it.
#5 Consult the Star Charts
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $5.76
If Stock Up changed what blue mages could expect to get from a three-mana sorcery, Consult the Star Charts has done the same for two-mana instants. This has instantly become the best card-filtering option at two mana in Standard, and a strong option in most other formats.
Selling cards that have high “velocity” keeps your cash flow healthy so you can take advantage of new opportunities. Check out our reports on the top-selling cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon, and be sure to list these cards on TCGplayer to unlock value you can reinvest in your business.
