Building a More Scalable and Secure API Program at TCGplayer
By Seller Experience Team •
APIs play an important role in how some sellers manage and grow their businesses on TCGplayer. As our marketplace and the needs of our sellers continue to evolve, we want to make sure our API program can evolve alongside them.
As the first step, as mentioned in our Q2 Strategy Update, we’re reviewing current API usage and updating how we manage seller access. This includes ensuring API users are operating within established rate limits, have the appropriate agreements in place, and meet current access requirements.
By establishing more consistent standards for how APIs are accessed and used today, we can better protect platform stability, strengthen the security of our marketplace, and position our APIs to scale more effectively as our program evolves.
Ultimately, our goal is to build an API program that can support the needs of TCGplayer and our sellers responsibly, while continuing to provide a safe, stable, and trusted marketplace for everyone who uses it.
What This Means for Sellers
Some users with existing API access will need to take action or will experience changes to their access as part of this work.
Sellers who are directly impacted have already received communications from TCGplayer outlining what these changes mean for their account, including any action they need to take and applicable deadlines.
We recognize that API integrations can be an important part of a seller’s workflow, and we’re committed to communicating directly with impacted sellers as we make these changes. This work is an important first step toward creating a more sustainable approach to APIs at TCGplayer, one that helps us maintain the stability and trust sellers depend on today while giving us a stronger foundation for the future.
