What The Roca Sifter Can Do
What will the Roca Sifter be capable of on day one?
The Roca Sifter will be able to sift cards by price, rarity, color, or foiling.
What criteria can be used for sifting?
The Roca Sifter can sift by foil, price, color, type, rarity, and any combination of these.
Can I create custom rules or combine criteria?
Yes, you can create custom rules which can be combined to make custom sifts.
Can the Roca Sifter create bulk lots or batches with rules? (e.g., no duplicates or maximum copies per card)
No, the Roca Sifter cannot create bulk lots or batches.
Does it support chaos sorting or an SKU-location system?
We do not officially support this, however we do offer a CSV export.
If I provide a pull list or CSV, can the Roca Sifter pull cards for orders?
No. However, the Roca Sorter has the ability to pull cards for orders using a CSV.
Accuracy Matters
What happens when the system isn’t confident in an identification?
If the system doesn’t know what a card is, it will place it in the “unidentified” bin (3). If our confidence in a match is low, it will be flagged as “fair” match quality to make it easier for you to review.
How accurately can the Roca Sifter distinguish between sets, reprints, collectors numbers, alternate art, showcase treatments, foils/non-foils, and other print variants? What about reverse holo or other holo treatments in Pokémon?
Roca has some of the most accurate set and reprint detection in the industry. It handles most alternate art, showcase treatments, and print variants. Different foil types must be pre-sifted before being loaded in the machine, e.g. holofoil/reverse holo or foil/etched foil.
How does foil detection work?
Foil detection works by detecting a thin layer of metal that is in nearly every “foil” card type across all games.
Can it identify the card's condition?
No, the Roca Sifter will prompt you to select a default condition for the entire stack before starting a job. You can edit the condition of specific cards through the Scan & Identify app after a job completes.
How does the system handle counterfeit cards?
At this time, the Roca Sifter is not able to detect counterfeit cards.
Data & Exporting
Does the Roca Sifter save an image of every scanned card, and can they be exported?
Scan results can be exported as a .csv file either directly from Scan & Identify, or by pushing to Inventory and exporting a list from staged. Images can currently be saved on an individual basis by right-clicking the desired image and saving it from the Scan & Identify interface.
What data is retained for each scanned card and what fields are available in CSV exports? (e.g., TCGplayer ID, set, collector’s number, etc.)
Currently the CSV includes:
|
Card Name |
Card # |
Condition |
Printing |
Language |
Rarity |
Listing Price |
Qty |
Import Sequence |
Bin |
Can I process a collection without immediately adding it to my TCGplayer inventory?
Yes, previous scans will be saved under the “Managed Scans” section of Scan & Identify.
Do I need to reformat exported files to add them to TCGplayer’s Staged Inventory?
You can add scanned cards to your inventory with the push of a button. There is no need to export or handle CSV files.
Can the Roca Sifter operate offline?
No, the Roca Sifter requires a network connection (ethernet or Wi-Fi) to operate.
Integrations
What is the end-to-end workflow between Roca Sifter, Scan & Identify, and TCGplayer?
Scan & Identify acts as a control center for getting your cards scanned and listed on TCGplayer. You will configure and start your sifts, verify output, and push cards to your inventory with the click of a button, all from the Scan & Identify interface.
Is there a direct integration with eBay?
We do not currently support directly integrating with eBay.
Can I export images and inventory for eBay, Shopify, or other marketplace without rescanning the cards?
Yes. Images can currently be saved on an individual basis by right-clicking the desired image and saving it from the Scan & Identify interface.
Will the Roca Sifter integrate with or support workflows using BinderPOS, SortSwift, CrystalCommerce, or other inventory management systems?
At this time, the Roca Sifter cannot integrate with third party inventory management systems. You can export batch files to be uploaded, however the formatting may not be compatible with other platforms.
TCG Support
Which games will be supported at launch?
The Roca Sifter currently supports Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Disney Lorcana, and One Piece Card Game.
What games are planned next, and what is the timeline for expanding game support?
We have committed to bringing Flesh & Blood support to the Roca Sifter before the end of the year.
As new sets, rarities, and treatments are released, how quickly will identification support be updated?
We work to get support for new sets published as quickly as possible. Depending on the game here is what you can generally expect.
- Magic: The Gathering: Tuesday before pre-release if there is a pre-release; otherwise Tuesday the week of release.
- Pokémon: On release day.
- Disney Lorcana: On release day.
- One Piece Card Game: On release day.
- Flesh and Blood: On release day.
Hardware & Maintenance
What card formats can safely pass through the Roca Sifter? (e.g., unsleeved, penny sleeved, perfect fit, etc.)
You can safely run unsleeved and sleeved cards through the Roca Sifter, as long as they’re not in the same batch. Running them together could lead to damaging products. Only premium sleeves are recommended for use in the Roca Sifter. Penny sleeves can cause a jam and damage the Roca Sifter or your card.
What safeguards prevent cards from being damaged during processing, and what happens if the machine damages a card?
The Roca team went to great lengths to limit the damage the device might do to cards. We tested over 23 million cards to verify and refine the Roca Sifter. In our testing we saw 1 card damaged per 4.6 million cards processed. The user assumes all responsibility for damaged cards.
What routine cleaning and maintenance are required?
There are a few routine maintenance operations you will need to perform on your Roca Sifter.
- Clean scan bars with included wipe tool if images start to appear with vertical lines in them.
- Replace consumable rollers every 500,000 cards processed. These will be mailed to you automatically as part of the service plan.
What parts require replacement and how are replacement parts supplied?
There are two sets of rollers for picking and moving cards that will be replaceable. Worn rollers will have a more difficult time picking cards. The Roca Sifter will detect when its rollers have neared their expected lifetime, send a message to Roca, and we’ll automatically ship replacement parts to the address your Roca Sifter was shipped to. You can update this address anytime directly through our Storefront. Replacing the rollers is simple and you can do it without any tools. Additionally, the scan bar can accumulate dust or other debris over time; there is a wipe included inside the Roca Sifter for you to use to clean the scan bar. All replaceable parts are included as part of your Support Plan and will be shipped free of cost.
What hardware support and warranty coverage are included?
A 3 year, 1,000,000 cards scanned (whichever comes first) warranty is included.
What connectivity does it support (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet) and what are the PC/mobile-device requirements?
The Roca Sifter can connect over Wi-Fi or ethernet either directly to your network or a mobile hotspot. Ethernet is generally a more reliable and consistent connection, but it is not a requirement.
Can I operate multiple Roca Sifters from one PC and account?
Yes, you can view all your Roca Sifter devices in one place and then choose them based on your convenience to configure jobs.
