Top Selling Magic: The Gathering Sets Right Now – 09/16/2026

Deciding how much capital to invest in each new TCG set is one of the hardest decisions that comes with running a game store. We want to make that decision easier, so we’ve compiled a report of the bestselling Magic: The Gathering sets this month. This report will show you which Magic sets are still in high demand months or years after their release, so you can better anticipate what the demand will be for upcoming sets.
The report lists the top 100 Magic: The Gathering sets, ranked by the total GMV of all sales (sealed and singles) on the TCGplayer Marketplace between August 17 and September 16, 2026. As a quick preview, here are the ten sets at the very top of the list:
Top 10 Bestselling Magic: The Gathering Sets
Released: June 13, 2025.
FINAL FANTASY was the bestselling Magic: The Gathering set of all time before it even released. Sets don’t achieve that level of success without serious buy-in from collectors and speculators, and those buyers are still purchasing products from FINAL FANTASY’s Commander subset where they can.
Most of those sales are for Deck Displays and the non-fancy versions of the FINAL FANTASY Commander decks, now that the Collector’s Edition versions command a premium of 2x or more. However, arguably the biggest winner of all is Y’shtola, Night’s Blessed, which is now the most played Commander of all.

Modern Horizons 3 completely redefined the format when it released two years ago. Several rounds of bans later, it’s still the only source of many of the most-played cards in Modern. A lot of the cards in this are going to stick around for a long time, with the likes of Ocelot Pride and Warren Soultrader just being far too strong to ignore.
Until these cards get reprinted, expect MH3 to continue ranking among the top 10 bestselling Magic sets.
#8 Commander: Marvel Super Heroes
Released: June 26, 2026.
The Commander version of Marvel Super Heroes seems to be a little less popular than the main set, but is still doing very well for itself. While there are some breakout cards, most people have just been buying cases of the four Commander decks themselves.

Marvel Super Heroes was better received than the Spider-Man set, and we’re all quite happy about that. There’s just a far larger mix of characters overall, and The Mind Stone has been absolutely crushing it. It’s fair to say that every infinity stone is going to be one to watch from here on out.
#6 Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
Released: June 23, 2023.
Despite the overwhelming clunk of a title, Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth is back here once again. This time it’s because of The Hobbit set release, which has seen a renewed interest in the world of hobbits, elves, and dwarves. Despite all of the new options, the best card to have is still The One Ring. Set Booster Boxes and Collector Booster Displays also sold incredibly well.

FINAL FANTASY is still the bestselling set in Magic: The Gathering’s long history, and the demand for Play and Collector Boxes remains strong. The Commander staple Buster Sword is still the most popular card from the set, but everything in the set is worthwhile. You can see the sheer appeal of it all by the fact that Vivi Orinitier is still selling so well even after being banned in Standard.

The eternal-legal The Hobbit cards are making some serious bank. The Mox Amber variant is by far and away the best card to have to sell right now, but any of these reprints are going to be heavily sought after thanks to a mix of value and the beauty of it. There are also some fantastic eternal-legal specific cards to keep an eye out for as well, like Smaug the Impenetrable.

While it’s not out yet, the excitement for Reality Fracture is off the charts. It’s the last in-universe Magic set of the year, and also sees an end to Jace’s story. There are also a lot of powerful new cards here that are twists on old favorites, like our very own preview card Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun. This set is going to go even further up the list the moment it actually releases.
Released: December 2, 2019 - Present.
Like Special Guests, the list of Secret Lair cards grows longer with each passing year, so we can expect at least some of them to sell well every month.
Right now, the top-selling cards are almost entirely from the Hatsune Miku crossover, which has been doing absurdly well thanks to the popularity of the Vocaloid. On the other end, but only a little less popular, is the Goblinstorm Commander deck. MTG players contain multitudes.
#1 The Hobbit
Released: August 14, 2026.
At the top this time around is the latest set, which isn’t a huge shock. The Hobbit has a lot of fantastic cards in it, both in terms of collectability and playability, and the fantasy aesthetic fits a lot better for many MTG players. While everyone’s chasing a very specific version of Smaug the Magnificent, plenty of cards have been creeping up in price from this one.
