Top Selling Magic: The Gathering Sets Right Now – 05/13/2025

Deciding how much capital to invest in each new TCG set is one of the hardest decisions that comes with running a game store. We want to make that decision easier, so we’ve compiled a report of the bestselling Magic: The Gathering sets this month. This report will show you which Magic sets are still in high demand months or years after their release, so you can better anticipate what the demand will be for upcoming sets.

The report lists the top 100 Magic: The Gathering sets, ranked by the total GMV of all sales (sealed and singles) on the TCGplayer Marketplace between April 12 and May 11, 2025. As a quick preview, here are the ten sets at the very top of the list:

Top 10 Bestselling Magic: The Gathering Sets

#10 Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate
Released: June 10, 2022.

Battle for Baldur’s Gate managed to outsell Aetherdrift this month (despite Aetherdrift being only a few months old) by riding the scaly back of Tarkir: Dragonstorm all the way to the bank. The new Tarkir set released on April 11 and reminded Magic fans that they do, in fact, love Dragons, while giving them a few dozen new reasons to build around the creature type. That sent players searching for other Dragons for their Commander decks, which led them to Battle for Baldur’s Gate, the last Dragon-centric Magic set before Dragonstorm.

Top-selling cards from the set include Ancient Copper Dragon, Ancient Silver Dragon, and Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm, none of which have been reprinted outside of Battle for Baldur’s Gate.

#9 Special Guests
Released: November 17, 2023 - Present.

Introduced in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan in November 2023, Special Guests are a class of reprints which are released parallel to a set but aren’t technically part of that set, somewhat like Zendikar Expeditions and The List. Each Special Guests card has the Special Guests set symbol, and new art themed around the set in which the card appears. For example, the Special Guests version of Arid Mesa can be found in Play and Collector Boosters of Tarkir: Dragonstorm, so the art and flavor text reference Tarkir.

The list of Special Guests cards has grown steadily with each new release, so they’re collectively commanding a greater and greater share of the Magic market. This month the bestselling cards are (unsurprisingly) the enemy-colored fetch lands from Tarkir: Dragonstorm.

#8 Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
Released: June 23, 2023.

Last year’s biggest set continues to rank highly, though it’s fallen a bit since last quarter. We might attribute that drop to The One Ring being banned in Modern in December, which meant the card would no longer be mandatory for players hoping to break into that format. It’s still legal (and busted) in Commander however, and Orcish Bowmasters remains a Modern staple, so the LOTR set is retaining its status as one of Magic’s best-selling sets even as it approaches its 2-year anniversary.

#7 Commander Masters
Released: August 4, 2023.

Commander Masters has ranked well once again thanks to the enduring popularity of the Commander format. The set contains reprints of over 400 format staples, and most of those reprints are now the cheapest printings of their respective cards. If Wizards of the Coast ever reprints those cards again, we can expect the current interest in Commander Masters to transfer to the new set.

#6 Modern Horizons 3
Released: June 14, 2024.

Modern Horizons 3 completely redefined the format when it released last June. The December bans and unbans just opened up room for the rest of the set’s cards to spawn more archetypes like Energy, Charbelcher Combo, and Esper Blink that have swept the old guard away and required anyone who wants to play Modern to buy into MH3.

#5 Commander: FINAL FANTASY
Released: June 13, 2025.

We’re still more than a month away from the release of FINAL FANTASY, but according to Hasbro it’s already the bestselling Magic: The Gathering set of all time. The combination of Final Fantasy’s rich lore and beloved characters with the tactics and collectibility of a trading card game appears to be a license to print money—a statement that must be grating to hear for fans of the Final Fantasy TCG.

So far, the majority of GMV spent on the Commander: FINAL FANTASY subset has been for the Deck Displays and Collector’s Edition Deck Displays, which are preselling for $370 and $1000, respectively. That these displays are outselling the individual decks either suggests that buyers aren’t picking them up for themselves, or that buyers expect all four decks to be full of new must-have Commander staples.

#4 Commander: Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Released: April 11, 2025.

FINAL FANTASY presales couldn’t overshadow Tarkir: Dragonstorm, which released last month to great fanfare from Magic fans who felt disappointed with Aetherdrift. Thematically, Tarkir: Dragonstorm was a return to MTG’s roots of making original, unapologetic fantasy IP, which was a delight to those players nostalgic for the days before Universes Beyond and hat sets. Mechanically, the set was straight dragonfire, with a flight of mult-format all-stars including Ugin, Eye of the Storms, Cori-Steel Cutter, and Elspeth, Storm Slayer.

The bestselling products this month from the Commander: Tarkir: Dragonstorm subset were the Temur and Sultai preconstructed decks, which both outsold and outpriced the Mardu, Jeskai, and Abzan decks. Blue/green can’t help that it’s the best color combination in Commander!

#3 Secret Lair Drop Series
Released: December 2, 2019 - Present.

Like Special Guests, the list of Secret Lair cards grows longer with each passing year, so we can expect at least some of them to sell well every month.

Right now, the top-selling Secret Lair product is the Secret Lair x Marvel’s Deadpool drop that arrived without warning on April Fool’s Day, with Blacker Lotus from that drop topping the list of bestselling Secret Lair singles.

#2 FINAL FANTASY
Released: June 13, 2025.

As we covered above, FINAL FANTASY presale numbers have outstripped anything we’ve ever seen from a Magic: The Gathering set. As you might expect, Play and Collector Booster Displays are leading the way in both total sales and GMV, as most of the set hasn’t been officially previewed yet.

#1 Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Released: April 11, 2025.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm was the top-selling Magic set of the last month, thanks to the way its old-school flavor appealed to enfranchised players, and the way its incredible power appealed to everyone else. Play Booster Displays and Collector Booster Displays earned the most sales and the most GMV among sealed products (respectively), while Cori-Steel Cutter placed high among the set’s singles in both measures. That card’s nuts.
