Top Selling Magic: The Gathering Cards on TCGplayer: July 2025
By Peter Day •
The first step to serving customer demand is to understand it. So to help you follow what’s currently popular with players and collectors, we’ve put together a pair of downloadable CSV reports of the top-selling Magic: The Gathering cards of the past month.
These reports show the name and set of the Magic cards with the highest total number of copies sold on the TCGplayer Marketplace between July 1 and 31, 2025. The reports consider cards from different sets to be distinct (even if they have the same name), but do not distinguish copies sold by condition (Near Mint, Lightly Played, etc.) or by printing (Foil, etc.).
The two reports cover cards that had an average sale price in July within two ranges: $50.00 or more, and $1.00 to $49.99.
Here are five highlights from each report.
Top Selling Magic Cards: $50 or More
#1 Traveling Chocobo (Borderless)
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $50.81
Edge of Eternities is cool and all, but FINAL FANTASY continues to dominate the MTG market. (It’s still the bestselling Magic set of all time, after all.)
Traveling Chocobo looks like an auto-include in landfall Commander decks—and it is—but its other home is in green landfall decks in Standard, where it unlocks wild plays with Sazh’s Chocobo, Tifa Lockhart, and Mossborn Hydra. While this version costs a bit more than the base version, it’s still the least-expensive card featuring the same artwork as the wildly valuable Neon Ink chocobos, and the 77 serialized Golden Chocobos, several of which have sold for five figures.
#2 Summon: Bahamut (Borderless)
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $54.90
Summon: Bahamut continues to be one of the most popular FINAL FANTASY cards for Commander, since it’s wildly powerful and can be played in any deck.
#3 Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER (0382) (Borderless)
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $84.03
Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER on the other hand ranks as the third-most popular Commander from the FINAL FANTASY sets, with over 10,000 decks aggregated by EDHREC. This character card version with the giant “VII” in the background is the most affordable copy which also features the same art as the most-expensive Sephiroth card.
#4 Buster Sword (Borderless)
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $101.96
Buster Sword is an even more popular Commander card than Summon: Bahamut, as it combines card draw and pseudo ramp into an affordable package that (like Bahamut) can be played in any deck.
#5 Cloud, Midgar Mercenary (Borderless)
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $58.39
Cloud, Midgar Mercenary sees some play in Pioneer with Cori-Steel Cutter and Colossus Hammer, but that doesn’t seem to be the driving force behind this card’s demand. Given the borderless character cards fans are buying alongside Cloud, like Joshua, Tifa, Vincent, and Aerith, it’s more likely that fans just want to collect all of the FINAL FANTASY cards with the Roman numeral backgrounds.
Top Selling Magic Cards: $1.00 to $49.99
#1 Hare Apparent
Set: Foundations
Average Sale Price: $2.49
Cards like Hare Apparent allow (and encourage) players to play way more than the standard four copies in their decks, so anyone who wants to build around it needs tons of copies. That naturally pushes these cards to the top of bestseller lists.
#1 Starting Town
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $13.37
It’s wild to see a $13 card out-sell cards that are under $2. But Starting Town has quickly become standard in Standard, Pioneer, and Commander as an easy way to give any multi-color deck a reliable way to hit the colors it needs early in the game. We haven’t seen a new five-color land this flexible in years.
#3 Sazh's Chocobo
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $1.06
From Commander players building FF-themed Bird decks to Standard players trying to bonk their opponents with landfall triggers, everybody loves Sazh’s Chocobo.
#4 Astrologian's Planisphere
Set: FINAL FANTASY
Average Sale Price: $1.66
Astrologian’s Planisphere may not be quite at the same level as Cori-Steel Cutter, but since the Cutter was banned in Standard on June 30, Standard Prowess decks built to make the most of Vivi Ornitier have had to adapt.
#5 Mountain (0265) (Borderless)
Set: Edge of Eternities
Average Sale Price: $1.36
Much like Hare Apparent, the demand for basic lands isn’t restricted by the number of copies you can have in a deck. So when a particular fancy full-art basic takes off, as this one has, the players who like it will buy as many copies as it takes to fill out their decks’ needs.
