Price Trends: Pokémon Cards Climbing in Price - 08/12/2025
By Peter Day •
We want you to have the best information available when you price cards on the TCGplayer Marketplace. So to help you get the most from your inventory, we’ve put together a downloadable CSV report of Pokémon cards that have dramatically increased in Market Price in the past 30 days.
(Note: This report only considers Near Mint copies of cards with at least five sales between July 12 and August 10, 2025.)
Here are ten highlights from that report. First, we have the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price of $30 or less.
Top 5 Price Increases—PKMN Cards $30 or Less
- Set: XY Promos
- Increase: +$13.74
- Current Market Price: $34.65
Originally distributed through the Mythical Pokémon Collection—Victini collection as part of the 20th Anniversary set Generations, this promo sits at the intersection of two recent speculator trends. First, prices on cards from Generations and Celebrations (the 25th Anniversary set) have gone up in the past few months, likely in anticipation of the 30th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise in 2026. Second, Victini has been on more fans’ minds lately since the two Black White Rare Victini cards are some of the most expensive cards in the just-released sets Black Bolt and White Flare.
Buyouts on June 13 and July 12 raised the average number of copies per buyer to 8.0 and 6.0 (respectively), causing Victini XY 117’s price to finally spike on July 19 when the Marketplace ran out of copies under $25.
- Set: XY - Evolutions
- Increase: +$13.80
- Current Market Price: $36.61
While Generations was specifically marketed as the international 20th Anniversary Pokémon set, the Evolutions set was also part of the anniversary celebration, and contained cards from the Japanese set Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary including modified reprints of cards from Base Set. That means this Dragonite falls into the same category of 20th Anniversary cards as Victini, which speculators have been eyeing in anticipation of the 30th Anniversary next year.
In this case though, anniversary excitement wasn't responsible. On July 22, a Pokémon Presents stream revealed that Dragonite would be getting a Mega-Evolved form in the upcoming video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A. That same day, a buyout raised the average number of copies of this card per buyer to 10.7, up from 1.0 the day before. That massive buyout sent this card’s Market Price spiking for the next two weeks.
#3 Avalugg - 31/106 (Pokemon League) [1st Place]
- Set: League & Championship Cards
- Increase: +$14.35
- Current Market Price: $27.13
Someone bought nine copies of this obscure 2014-2015 League Challenge prize card on June 13, which predictably raised its Market Price. Just like today, League Challenges were the entry-level competitive events in that season, so plenty of these cards were awarded. But they’re still scarce enough on the secondary market that only two Near Mint copies remain on the Marketplace after the buyout.
#2 Moltres & Zapdos & Articuno GX (Secret)
- Set: Hidden Fates
- Increase: +$17.12
- Current Market Price: $44.71
This Secret Rare has crept up in price all year, but two major buyouts on July 14 and July 21 (6.0 and 8.2 average copies per buyer, respectively) sent its Market Price spiking.
- Set: XY Promos
- Increase: +$17.69
- Current Market Price: $40.79
This Darkrai comes from the Mythical Pokémon Collection—Darkrai box, a sister product to the 20th Anniversary-themed box that gave us the Victini card above. On June 28, somebody bought 41 copies of this promo in a single day, and its price has rocketed upward ever since.
Next, these are the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price over $30.
Top 5 Price Increases—PKMN Cards Over $30
- Set: SV: Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards
- Increase: +$77.53
- Current Market Price: $432.12
You may remember Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat as the promo card that caused mayhem at the Van Gogh museum in 2023. In February and March 2025, it rode the same wave of Pokémon card interest as the rest of the Pokémon market, then started slowly settling over the next few months.
Around June, speculators took advantage of the card’s price dip with a series of buyouts on June 10, 20, and 24 (11.0, 4.5, and 10.0 average copies per buyer, respectively), following which the card’s Market Price shot back up and passed its previous all-time high.
#4 Lugia V (Alternate Full Art)
- Set: Silver Tempest
- Increase: +$80.40
- Current Market Price: $337.12
The #1 chase card of Silver Tempest went through a similar rise and then slump in 2025, followed by buyouts on April 18 and July 21 (17.0 and 12.0 average copies per buyer, respectively). The second of those buyouts finally reversed the card’s fortunes and sent it spiking to over $300.
#3 Gengar & Mimikyu GX (Alternate Full Art)
- Set: Team Up
- Increase: +$101.04
- Current Market Price: $932.55
Alt-Art Gengar & Mimikyu-GX hasn’t seen any buyouts (or even high-volume days) in 2025, but its price has marched straight up all year anyway. This is the #2 chase card from Team Up, the same set that gave us the Alt-Art Latias & Latios-GX that recently broke a Market Price of $2,000. Fans with means seem willing to buy into Alt-Art Gengar & Mimikyu-GX at any price, on the off chance that it climbs that high in the future.
- Set: Paldean Fates
- Increase: +$131.60
- Current Market Price: $437.12
“Bubble Mew” rose quickly and dramatically during the first wave of Pokémon TCG Pocket-related hype, going from $100 to $400 in just four months. After peaking in early February, it sank back down to $300 until June 26, when someone decided to take advantage of the slump by buying up 10 copies at once. That sparked the latest price surge, which is still ongoing.
- Set: Phantom Forces
- Increase: +$203.11
- Current Market Price: $608.90
Speculation also caused this card’s recent price spike, though because Gengar-EX 114 is over a decade old, it hasn’t taken many sales to have the same impact. On June 18, after a few months of price settling, someone bought three copies of Gengar-EX 114 in a day. That was enough to send the card to a new all-time high of $600.
