Price Trends: Pokémon Cards Climbing in Price - 04/22/2025

We want you to have the best information available when you price cards on the TCGplayer Marketplace. So to help you get the most from your inventory, we’ve put together a downloadable CSV report of Pokémon cards that have dramatically increased in Market Price in the past 30 days.

(Note: This report only considers Near Mint copies of cards with at least five sales between March 22 and April 20, 2025.)

Here are ten highlights from that report. First, we have the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price of $30 or less.

Top 5 Price Increases—PKMN Cards $30 or Less

#5 Volcanion-EX (Secret)

  • Set: Steam Siege
  • Increase: +$9.12
  • Current Market Price: $26.58

The lesson this month is that even small bumps in demand can have big impacts on price when the available supply is already low.

A few cards from the mostly ignored XY Series have spiked in recent months, though it’s not entirely clear why. It might reflect anticipation for Pokémon Legends Z-A, the new video game releasing later this year which will take place in Lumiose City (first introduced in Pokémon X and Y). Speculators may also be looking for earlier examples of “alternate-art” cards, which have exploded in popularity since the pandemic.

If so, this version of Volcanion-EX would certainly qualify as an alternate-art card. The two lower-rarity versions of Volcanion-EX in Steam Siege both feature art by 5ban Graphics, while this Secret Rare version was illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita (who you might recognize as the artist behind Base Set Charizard).

Whatever the reason for the current interest in this and similar cards, there’s not enough supply to absorb the demand. Steam Siege released almost a decade ago, so Near Mint copies are hard to find.

#4 Mew V

  • Set: Prize Pack Series Cards
  • Increase: +$9.26
  • Current Market Price: $33.53

Prize Pack cards have proven to hold way more value than you’d guess by looking at their base versions. While the original Mew V from Fusion Strike hasn’t broken $2, the Prize Pack version (with the Play! Pokémon stamp) is somewhere above $30 after a handful of sales in late March. The demand for these cards is fairly low (with just five sales of Mew V in the past three months) but the supply is even lower. At time of writing, there are only four Near Mint copies of Prize Pack Mew V on the marketplace, and the least expensive one is going for $60.

#3 Gyarados (21)

  • Set: XY - Ancient Origins
  • Increase: +$10.34
  • Current Market Price: $32.26

Like Volcanion-EX, Gyarados 21 from Ancient Origins is another early example of an alternate-art Pokémon card from the XY Series. The Market has struggled to put an accurate price on Gyarados 21, which in the past month has sold for as much as $30.64 and as little as $11.99. All that’s certain is that this card has rocketed up after a significant buyout on January 21, when the average number of copies per buyer rose to 15.0.

#2 Emolga (Full Art)

  • Set: Legendary Treasures: Radiant Collection
  • Increase: +$10.88
  • Current Market Price: $40.03

This Emolga also counts as an early alternate-art card. Like most of the cards in the Radiant Collection subset within Legendary Treasures, Emolga rode the wave of Pokémon TCG interest in early 2025. It never corrected back down after that initial climb, instead spiking again after a small buyout on March 17.

Legendary Treasures is over a decade old at this point, so the best-looking cards from this overlooked era have been due for reevaluation.

#1 Reshiram GX (Secret)

  • Set: Dragon Majesty
  • Increase: +$31.22
  • Current Market Price: $56.13

In late March, a Near Mint copy of Rainbow Rare Reshiram-GX sold for one cent under $23. Now, six sales later, the lowest listing is $120.

It seems unlikely that $120 will be the new benchmark for this card. (The most expensive card in Dragon Majesty, Ultra Necrozma-GX (Secret), has a Market Price of just $74.42.) But it speaks to how few copies of this card are available that a handful of sales were able to move its price this much.

Next, these are the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price over $30.

Top 5 Price Increases—PKMN Cards Over $30

#5 Primal Kyogre EX (Shiny Full Art)

  • Set: Ancient Origins
  • Increase: +$53.34
  • Current Market Price: $205.94

Exactly how much this card has grown in the past year is still an open question. In March, Near Mint copies sold for as little as $99.99 and as much as $299.99, and at time of writing the lowest listing is $306.30.

Primal Kyogra-EX (Shiny Full Art) was already trending upward before the market-wide spikes in January through March, just by being a 10-year-old card featuring Shiny Kyogre. But in the time since those spikes, it has nearly doubled in price, and there haven’t been enough new listings to keep its price in check.

#4 Gengar & Mimikyu GX (Full Art)

  • Set: Team Up
  • Increase: +$55.86
  • Current Market Price: $210.96

The higher-rarity versions of Gengar & Mimikyu-GX have climbed in price over the past year as collectors have reached back to Series that were printed before Pokémon card production exploded during the pandemic. Now the Ultra Rare version of the card is spiking too, thanks to a couple of small buyouts on March 17 and April 19. Very few sales have been recorded in the past month, but with no new listings replacing them, they’ve been enough to push the card’s price past $200.

#3 Sylveon ex - 156/131

  • Set: Prismatic Evolutions
  • Increase: +$66.06
  • Current Market Price: $543.24

Sylveon ex’s price has been mostly flat at $450 since mid-February. But a huge buyout on April 10 made it one of the few Prismatic Evolutions cards to post a gain this month, as the latest Pokémon fever continues to break and more Prismatic Evolutions packs flow into the wild.

#2 Team Aqua's Kyogre EX

  • Set: Double Crisis
  • Increase: +$87.67
  • Current Market Price: $348.89

Team Aqua’s Kyogre-EX doesn’t fit the technical definition of an alternate-art card (there’s no lower-rarity version to contrast it to). But its full-art illustration featuring multiple Pokémon and characters matches what most fans are looking for from an alt-art card, making Team Aqua’s Kyogre-EX one of the earliest examples of what are now the most popular cards among collectors. This card has been on a steady upward trajectory since August, and the recent $100 jump (from just a handful of sales) is just the latest chapter in the ongoing saga.

#1 Latias & Latios GX (Alternate Full Art)

  • Set: Team Up
  • Increase: +$119.37
  • Current Market Price: $1,738.85

And the lovebirds are back on top. Last month, there were no Near Mint listings of Alt-Art Latias & Latios-GX below $2,199.00. This month, that floor has risen to $2,699.93, and we’ve seen three more completed sales for $2,400.00 (plus one anomalous sale for $500). It’ll take a few more sales like that before the Market Price adjusts, but Latias & Latios-GX look like they’ll be hitting $2k officially in the near future. Chalk it up to them being from a wildly popular set that came out before the pandemic.
