Price Trends: Magic: The Gathering Cards Climbing in Price - 09/30/2025
By Peter Day •
We want you to have the best information available when you price cards on the TCGplayer Marketplace. So to help you get the most from your inventory, we’ve put together a downloadable CSV report of Magic: The Gathering cards that have dramatically increased in Market Price in the past 30 days.
(Note: This report only considers Near Mint copies of cards with at least five sales between August 30, 2025 and September 28, 2025.)
(Note: This week we included Near Mint Foil cards, which have been excluded from earlier Magic Price Trends reports. Let us know whether this change affects the value of this report for your business.)
Here are ten highlights from that report. First, we have the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price of $15 or less.
Top 5 Price Increases—MTG Cards $15 or Less
#5 Razorkin Needlehead (Borderless)
- Set: Duskmourn: House of Horror
- Printing: Normal
- Increase: +$6.79
- Current Market Price: $10.58
On August 31, Brennan Roy proved that the boogie-boy of Standard Vivi Oritier was not as unbeatable as players once feared. In a Top 8 featuring six Izzet Cauldron decks at the Magic Spotlight Series: Planetary Rotation, Roy blasted through the competition with a Mono-Red Aggro deck featuring (among other things) four copies of Razorkin Needlehead.
A week later, Wizards of the Coast cited Roy’s deck as a reason they wouldn’t be emergency-banning Vivi. These days if you wanna Vivi, Roy’s deck is your best bet, so all versions of Razorkin Needlehead (and other previously neglected cards like Nova Hellkite) have become much more popular and expensive.
- Set: Wilds of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales
- Printing: Normal
- Increase: +$7.87
- Current Market Price: $22.61
As MTGRocks noted, Commander players seemed to collectively realize how incredible Defense of the Heart is in the last week of August 2025. The inciting incident for this realization appears to have simply been a post on MTG Reddit asking if the card is as strong as it reads. Commenters responded that yes, Defense of the Heart does the Tooth and Nail thing for five less mana.
Sales of all versions of Defense of the Heart (but especially the Enchanting Tales version from the post) spiked in the next few days as the post got more upvotes and visibility.
#3 Summon: Leviathan Art Card (Gold-Stamped Signature)
- Set: Art Series: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$8.80
- Current Market Price: $14.39
On September 8, somebody bought four copies of this art card with a stamped signature by artist Kota Nataktsubo. That’s all it took to send the card spiking—there just weren’t any copies left for under $6.
Keep an eye out for the Gold-Stamped Signature cards that sometimes appear in FINAL FANTASY Play Boosters. While normal art cards are just pennies, a few of the cards featuring gold signatures or the planeswalker symbol that appear in 5% of Play Boosters have proven popular enough with collectors to be worth real money.
- Set: Unglued
- Printing: Normal
- Increase: +$8.80
- Current Market Price: $9.15
This un-card has seen hardly any sales in the past year, but a truly massive buyout on September 24 caused the average number of copies per buyer to spike to 14.0. As for why, there’s no clear reason. Maybe somebody got a tip that there’s going to be a Universes Beyond version of this card featuring the cast of Challengers.
(I’m kidding, unless I’m right.)
- Set: Commander: March of the Machine
- Printing: Normal
- Increase: +$9.12
- Current Market Price: $22.94
Uncivil Unrest has been steadily creeping up in price all year, with just a slight disruption around a buyout on May 23. In the last month, the price growth has accelerated, but not due to any increase in purchases. There just aren’t any cheaper listings around for this staple of +1/+1 counter Commander decks.
Next, these are the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price over $15.
Top 5 Price Increases—MTG Cards Over $15
#5 Peter Parker (0232) (Borderless)
- Set: Marvel's Spider-Man
- Increase: +$49.69
- Current Market Price: $129.64
The first two copies of this card were presold on TCGplayer for $79.95. That was too low for a card with classic comic book art on its front and back, so the next sale was for $600, and it adjusted down from there.
#4 Chaos Emerald - Lotus Petal (7034)
- Set: Secret Lair Drop Series
- Increase: +$73.84
- Current Market Price: $267.12
The seven Chaos Emeralds were the bonus cards in the Sonic Secret Lair drops, and they all bounced back in price quickly after their initial plummet when they first released.
#3 Chaos Emerald - Lotus Petal (7031)
- Set: Secret Lair Drop Series
- Increase: +$120.22
- Current Market Price: $327.06
…Including this one, the green Chaos Emerald which is the most expensive of the bunch.
#2 Traveling Chocobo (Borderless) (Neon Ink Yellow)
- Set: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$152.09
- Current Market Price: $1,950.74
The Neon Ink versions of Traveling Chocobo are so rare and expensive that any minor change in their price is worth hundreds of dollars.
#1 The Soul Stone (Borderless)
- Set: Marvel's Spider-Man
- Increase: +$1,032.57
- Current Market Price: $1,732.57
The Borderless Soul Stone with art of Thanos is only the second-most expensive version of the card (behind the cosmic foil version), so it’s understandable that a couple sellers underestimated its value during presale season. It now goes for four figures instead of the three it initially sold for—still less than the five figures of the cosmic foil Soul Stone.
