Price Trends: Magic: The Gathering Cards Climbing in Price - 07/08/2025
By Peter Day •
We want you to have the best information available when you price cards on the TCGplayer Marketplace. So to help you get the most from your inventory, we’ve put together a downloadable CSV report of Magic: The Gathering cards that have dramatically increased in Market Price in the past 30 days.
(Note: This report only considers Near Mint copies of cards with at least five sales between June 7, 2025 and July 6, 2025.)
Here are ten highlights from that report. First, we have the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price of $5 or less.
Top 5 Price Increases—MTG Cards $5 or Less
#5 Gogo, Mysterious Mime (Extended Art)
- Set: Commander: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$7.46
- Current Market Price: $12.15
Last month, the cards that spiked the most were all old cards that got better with the release of FINAL FANTASY. This month, they’re all FINAL FANTASY cards that were (or appeared to be) undervalued when they first released.
Gogo, Mysterious Mime has more than doubled in Market Price in under two weeks, following a massive buyout on June 28 when the average number of copies per buyer rose to 3.8. It’s not clear what prompted the buyout. Gogo doesn’t see play in 60-card formats, it’s not popular as a commander in its own right, and so far it hasn’t made its way into as many Commander decks as cards like O’aka, Traveling Merchant and Wrecking Ball Arm, both of which are less expensive than Gogo.
Either the speculators know something the rest of us don’t, or they’re just betting that Gogo’s ability will make it a Commander staple down the line.
- Set: Commander: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$7.76
- Current Market Price: $10.48
Unlike Gogo, Mysterious Mime, Summon: Yojimbo is already an exceptionally popular card in Commander, as it combines several effects that Commander players love into a single Saga that also happens to be a 5/5 vigilance for four mana. It doesn’t require any particular synergy to be good, so it slots easily into any white deck, especially ones that want to ramp on turn two (which are most of them).
- Set: Commander: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$8.81
- Current Market Price: $10.85
Commander: FINAL FANTASY contains four different versions of Secret Rendezvous, one for each of the four characters that Cloud can take on date in Final Fantasy VII. Tifa’s version (in non-foil) comes in the Limit Break Commander precon, but the other versions are only available in Collector Boosters, so fans who prefer other ships have had a harder time tracking down those versions.
Unsurprisingly, this version featuring Aerith is the best-selling and most valuable of the non-Tifa cards, followed by Yuffie and then Barret.
- Set: Commander: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$9.53
- Current Market Price: $10.85
The normal printing of Gogo, Mysterious Mime was bought out at the same time as the Extended Art version covered above, but even more dramatically. On June 28, the average number of copies per buyer rose to 14.1.
#1 Clive Rosfield - Vial Smasher the Fierce (Showcase)
- Set: FINAL FANTASY: Through the Ages
- Increase: +$10.20
- Current Market Price: $14.01
Clive’s rise on the other hand looks entirely organic. He still ranks near the bottom of Mythic-rarity cards from Through the Ages, but Mythics and Mythics, and since most Play Boosters don’t contain any cards from the Through the Ages bonus sheet, Clive is scarce enough to justify a double-digit price.
Next, these are the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price over $5.
Top 5 Price Increases—MTG Cards Over $5
#5 Underground Sea
- Set: Revised Edition
- Increase: +$23.83
- Current Market Price: $876.03
As a Commander-playable member of the Reserved List, Underground Sea doesn’t need a reason to go up another 5%. Swinging in price a few percentage points (and tens of actual dollars) is its default state of being.
- Set: FINAL FANTASY
- Increase: +$30.01
- Current Market Price: $84.44
Buster Sword has emerged as the most popular Commander card in FINAL FANTASY due to being a draw engine and cost-cheating tool that can go into literally any deck. The base version alone costs over $40, which has put upward pressure on this version with gorgeous art by KARUTA SHIKI.
#3 Encore Electromancer - Snapcaster Mage
- Set: Secret Lair Drop Series
- Increase: +$34.85
- Current Market Price: $858.64
This Hatsune Miku version of Snapcaster Mage is so rare nobody knows exactly how rare it is, which means copies and sales have both been in short supply. The last Hatsune Miku Secret Lair drop arrived in September 2024, so new copies of this bonus card haven’t entered circulation for months.
Since January, Encore Electromancer’s Market Price has crept up periodically, but has never caught up with the most recent sales. At time of writing for example, the lowest Near Mint listing of Encore Electromancer is $1,000.00, and the last sold copy went for $1,450.99—far above its $858.64 Market Price.
This card’s Market Price will continue playing catchup for the foreseeable future.
- Set: Urza's Saga
- Increase: +$43.64
- Current Market Price: $948.02
Like Underground Sea, Gaea’s Cradle doesn’t require a special reason to gain $40 in value in a month.
#1 The One Ring (Showcase Scrolls)
- Set: Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
- Increase: +$78.29
- Current Market Price: $325.36
Some version of The One Ring appears on this list basically every month as The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth recedes further into the mythic past of 2023. This time, it’s the Showcase Scrolls version, which continues to feel the effects of a small buyout on May 1 when the average number of copies per buyer jumped to 6.0.
