Discovering Gundam Card Game: A Guide for Upcoming Releases
By Janice Rivera-Pagan •
We are officially counting down the days for the official release of Gundam Card Game!
Gundam is the newest franchise to be developed into a trading card game by the publisher BANDAI. Given the financial success of BANDAI’s current tabletop lineup (which includes Dragon Ball Super Card Game, Digimon Card Game, One Piece Card Game), Gundam Card Game is expected to reach similar levels of achievement, while reaching out to a new player base of devoted fans.
With the debut of the first set of products just under a month away, we want to provide sellers with some additional information on what to expect with this brand new product line.
Beta Edition
Most sellers interested in Gundam Card Game will be familiar with the Beta Edition product that was made available in limited quantities in late 2024. This unique product included a selection of card singles from the first booster and starter decks, as well as a custom storage box and card sleeves.
While the Beta Edition allowed a select number of interested buyers to test out some pre-eminent gameplay and a selection of card previews, the upcoming cards may be significantly different from their Beta counterparts. In addition to new keywords and updated card text, the upcoming cards singles will be missing the tell-tale “ꞵ” symbol next to the card number on the top-right corner of the card.
Upcoming Releases
The first official release for Gundam Card Game includes four starter decks, all of which will be releasing on July 11, 2025:
Participating BANDAI TCG+ Stores will also be able to host a Launch Event for players to test out the new decks in competitive play from July 11 until July 24. Winners of these events will receive promotional alternative art cards.
The first booster product (GD01 Newtype Rising) will be released two weeks later on July 25, 2025. This date also marks the start of another Launch Event, which BANDAI TCG+ Stores can host until August 10.
Sellers can expect 1 booster release every business quarter, with starter decks and extra boosters releasing in-between each booster debut. BANDAI has already released some preliminary information regarding the next few Gundam sets:
- Starter Decks ST-05 (Iron Bloom) and ST-06 (Clan Unity) will launch in September.
- The second booster set, titled Dual Impact, will premiere on October 24, 2025.
- The third booster set does not currently have an announced title, but it is expected to debut alongside Starter Decks ST-07 and ST-08 on January 30, 2026.
It is important to note that unlike other BANDAI card games, all Gundam Card Game releases will launch simultaneously in the English and Japanese markets.
Set Breakdown
While we do not have enough information yet to determine pull rates for the upcoming Gundam booster products, we can deduce the standard set breakdown for upcoming boosters by looking at what we know so far about Newtype Rising.
There are a total of 134 cards available in GD01 Newtype Rising, including:
- 50 Commons
- 36 Uncommons
- 32 Rares
- 12 Legend Rares and
- 4 Tokens
There are also 47 alternate art variants for all the rarities listed above, for a total of 181 possible card types.
Booster packs will contain 12 cards and 1 additional token or resource card, with the booster display box consisting of 24 packs.
Card Variants and Promos
Alternative art cards are considered a staple of many BANDAI card games, and it seems they will continue to play a quintessential role as set variants in the new Gundam Card Game. These specific card prints will almost always appear as foil cards, with unique art work that separates them from the regular set version.
Approximately 25% of the cards in the first booster are alternate art variants, but given their typical pull rarity it’s likely that sellers can expect a modest amount of these present in a standard booster box.
Alternative art variants may also appear as promotional cards given out at upcoming events. Several of these will be available as prizes on the upcoming Launch events, or given out to participants at conventions such as Gen Con, San Diego Comic-Con, and Anime Expo.
