Uncommonly Profitable: Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate
By Drew Knapp •
Commons and Uncommons — the words themselves feel like they’re already comparatively worthless alongside the likes of Rares and Mythics. But the words themselves may be lying to you. No, hiding in packs (especially in criminally under opened packs), you can find an almost startling number of commons and uncommons that are surprisingly profitable.
There are an abundance of commons and uncommons worth $1 or more, which can add up extremely quickly when you take the time to comb through your collection. While this is true for all sets, it becomes much more true when a set isn’t getting opened enough to flood the market with bulk cards.
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate, is almost offensive in how it underperformed. Few people wanted it, it didn’t get opened near enough, and despite being a great draft and Commander experience, it has languished on some shelves. This is a mistake, in my not-so-humble-opinion, but it is already seeing a resurgence!
You can take full advantage of both facts: the slow recognition of the value in the set, and the fact that you can find some high-value pulls in your Baldur’s Gate boxes. Let’s look at all the commons and uncommons that are worth over $1 in Battle for Baldur’s Gate:
- Skullclamp
- Mindcrank
- Lightning Greaves
- Propaganda
- Mother of Runes
- Three Visits
- Herald’s Horn
- Irenicus’s Vile Duplication
- Patrier’s Seal
- Reliquary Tower
- Curse of Opulence
- Changeling Outcast
- Tainted Isle
- Decanter of Endless Water
- Talisman of Dominance
- Terrain Generator
- Sakura-Tribe Elder
- Bojuka Bog
- Swiftfoot Boots
- Zulaport Cutthroat
- Nature’s Lore
- Inspiring Leader (Foil Etched)
- Agent of the Iron Thrones (Foil Etched)
- Sol Ring
- Deadly Dispute
- Beast Within
- Thought Vessel
- Kodama’s Reach
- Drown in the Loch
- Mahadi, Emporium Master (Foil Etched)
These 30 items are a stellar starting point, but it’s also worth noting that there are plenty more that are scratching the surface of that $1 line. Even more notable, I strongly suspect that many of the cards with the Foil Etched treatment will prove popular over time, making them potentially worth keeping on hand even if they haven’t broken $1 yet.
For your convenience, we’ve also included a downloadable CSV of the valuable commons and uncommons that can be found in Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate, so you can list these cards!
