Price Trends: Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards Climbing in Price - 10/22/24
By Peter Day •We want you to have the best information available when you price cards on the TCGplayer Marketplace. So to help you get the most from your inventory, we’ve put together a downloadable CSV report of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that have dramatically increased in Market Price in the past 30 days.
(Note: This report only considers Near Mint copies of cards with at least five sales between September 21 and October 20, 2024.)
Here are ten highlights from that report. First, we have the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price of $10 or less.
Top 5 Price Increases—YGO Cards $10 or Less
#5 Trap Stun
- Set: Legendary Collection 5D's
- Increase: +$7.93
- Current Market Price: $17.84
You don’t need to read too much into this spike, which seems to have been driven entirely by supply for this particular version of Trap Stun finally drying up in early October. Released almost exactly a decade ago on October 24, 2014, this version of Trap Stun is older and harder to find than most other versions. You can still find copies that were printed in Structure Decks or in Premium Gold for around a dollar, and Trap Stun hasn’t been relevant competitive in a few years, so this looks more like a case of particularly low supply (of the Legendary Collection 5D’s version) than like increased demand (for the card overall).
#4 Secret Six Samurai - Hatsume
- Set: Spirit Warriors
- Increase: +$8.09
- Current Market Price: $16.32
The Six Samurai theme got four new cards when Rage of the Abyss released on October 11, and while they didn’t make as big a splash as the other high-powered cards in this set, they did revitalize a classic theme for which players have a lot of nostalgia and affection. Players looking to sleeve up Six Samurai in 2024 more or less have to play Hatsume, and since the card has only been printed once (as a Secret Rare back in 2017), the card’s price has doubled in the past 30 days.
#3 Abyss Dweller (Quarter Century Secret Rare)
- Set: 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II
- Increase: +$10.23
- Current Market Price: $17.37
One massive buyout shifted this card’s entire trajectory. On September 25th, as the card was holding steady around $7.50, a small number of buyers bought enough Abyss Dwellers to push the average copies per buyer to 35.7, up from 1.0 the day before. That sent the price climbing, and over the next two weeks it rose and plateaued around $17.50.
Given the number of non-Quarter Century Secret Rare copies of Abyss Dweller still available for under a dollar, the effects of this buyout don’t seem to be spreading beyond the 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II version. The card has been printed over 10 times, so players have their choice of variants.
#2 Emblema Oath
- Set: 25th Anniversary Tin: Dueling Mirrors
- Increase: +$10.26
- Current Market Price: $16.93
The Centur-Ion theme also got new support in Rage of the Abyss, so the recent reprint of Emblema Oath rose to match the increased demand. Emblema Oath has only been printed twice so far (including this reprint) so while Dueling Mirrors helped to bring the first printing’s price below $20, there’s still plenty of demand for both versions.
#1 Number 60: Dugares the Timeless (Quarter Century Secret Rare)
- Set: 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II
- Increase: +$11.29
- Current Market Price: $15.22
Like Abyss Dwellers, Number 60 is a massively reprinted card that got a Quarter Century Secret Rare version in 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II. Unlike Abyss Dweller though, its rise in price looks mostly organic—sales were high throughout the second half of September, but the number of copies per buyer never rose above 5.2. That still indicates some speculation, but nothing on the level of what Abyss Dweller saw. Most likely, plenty of players honestly wanted a fancier version of this generically powerful Extra Deck monster, and their demand has finally outpaced the available supply.
Next, these are the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price over $10.
Top 5 Price Increases—YGO Cards Over $10
#5 Secret Six Samurai - Kizaru
- Set: Spirit Warriors
- Increase: +$23.14
- Current Market Price: $40.55
Like Hatsume, Kizaru belongs in every Six Samurai deck, but has only been printed once as a Secret Rare back in 2017. The release of new Six Samurai support in Rage of the Abyss caused this card to more than double in price as players bought back into the nostalgic theme.
- Set: Abyss Rising
- Printing: Unlimited
- Increase: +$23.98
- Current Market Price: $63.17
Both this UTR version and the base version of Mermail Abyssgaios have rocketed up from the depths in the leadup to Rage of the Abyss, which released on October 11. The set contained tons of support for Mermail, and players need Abyssgaios to set up the deck’s most powerful boards.
#3 Dark Magician Girl (Ghost Rare)
- Set: Ghosts From the Past: The 2nd Haunting
- Increase: +$25.91
- Current Market Price: $173.88
$25 looks serious, but it’s just a blip in the history of this highly collectible card. Dark Magician Girl ranks among the most recognizable and popular Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh, and while this version isn’t the most expensive version of Dark Magician’s distaff counterpart, it’s still in the Top 5. The card has been drifting between $140 and $200 since 2023, and this latest upward trend is just a natural correction after it hit its all-time low in early September.
#2 Orcust Harp Horror (Quarter Century Secret Rare)
- Set: Battles of Legend: Terminal Revenge
- Increase: +$31.09
- Current Market Price: $72.06
If you read last month’s Yu-Gi-Oh Price Trends article, you might be getting deja vu right now. The QCSR of Orcust Harp Horror has kept on climbing, and is now up $40 from where it started at the beginning of September.
Players can pick up any of the non-Quarter Century Secret Rare versions of Orcust for less than $1, but this version’s sheer scarcity has been high enough to make it the most expensive Orcust card on the market. The recent price growth appears organic—there just aren’t enough low-cost copies to handle even the modest demand for this collectible. We might be able to attribute some of that demand to the fact that fan-favorite archetype Orcust will be getting new support in Japan with the arrival of the Quarter Century Trinity Box in December.
#1 Dragon Master Magia (Quarter Century Secret Rare)
- Set: Battles of Legend: Terminal Revenge
- Increase: +$205.06
- Current Market Price: $995.67
Dragon Master Magia continues to soar, with a current Market Price just shy of a thousand dollars—more than twice the price it held during the release weekend for Terminal Revenge.
This card has only a single printing, at Quarter Century Secret Rare, meaning that players who want to summon Black Luster Soldier riding Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon have no other versions to turn to. With new Blue-Eyes support possibly on the horizon in the form of a new Structure Deck, nothing can keep Dragon Master Magia down. It’s already claimed the title of most expensive Yu-Gi-Oh card of 2024, and is starting to compete with Dragon Master Knight for the title of most expensive Yu-Gi-Oh card on the TCGplayer Marketplace.
