Many sellers look at a set and zoom in immediately on the known, high-value game pieces—rare, special treatments, competitive cards, and recognized casual favorites. However, hyper-focusing on the cards that are “obviously” valuable can result in losing out on the value that’s hiding in the margins.
In most sets, at least a handful of commons and uncommons will rise up above the rest of the chaff. Printed in greater numbers than the other rarities, these more secretly valuable cards can end up representing a tidy pile of cash that’s sitting in bulk bins. Here, I’ll be looking at any commons and uncommons that have managed to jump over $1 in value.
Phyrexia: All Will Be One was a fairly popular set that saw a lot of product being cracked open. When it comes to the long-term value of a set's singles, that typically translates to a downward trend—there is more on the market overall, so the demand is lower than it might be for something that saw fewer packs being opened. That doesn’t mean that all the more common cards are worthless (far from it!) but it does mean this list will be small.
What demand there is for commons and uncommons in ONE is driven primarily by casual demand, especially cards that are effective in Commander. The top card over $1 in ONE is a solid removal spell that’s run in multiple formats—Sheoldred’s Edict is the best forced sacrifice effect that we’ve seen print in awhile. Here are the commons and uncommons in Phyrexia: All Will Be One that have risen over $1 on our market (plus an honorable mention!):
- Sheoldred’s Edict
- Drown In Ichor
- Tyvar’s Stand
- Cankerbloom (Showcase Step and Compleat Foil)
- Honorable Mention: Thrummingbird (Showcase Step and Compleat Foil)
The Showcase Step and Compleat variants are actually all worth considering for the future, as this special treatment is likely to retain its value, but Cankerbloom and my HM Thrummingbird are increasingly staples in the Commander format. All other cards here are powerful plays and potential staples that you should watch on the market.
For your convenience, we’ve also included downloadable CSV of the valuable commons and uncommons that can be found in Phyrexia: All Will Be One.
