Deciding how much capital to invest in each new TCG set is one of the hardest decisions that comes with running a game store. We want to make that decision easier, so we’ve compiled a report of the bestselling Magic: The Gathering sets this month. This report will show you which Magic sets are still in high demand months or years after their release, so you can better anticipate what the demand will be for upcoming sets.

The report lists the top 100 Magic: The Gathering sets, ranked by the total GMV of all sales (sealed and singles) on the TCGplayer Marketplace between May 1 and June 7, 2024. As a quick preview, here are the ten sets at the very top of the list:

Top 10 Bestselling Magic: The Gathering Sets

#10 Universes Beyond: Fallout
Released: March 8, 2024.

The demand for Universes Beyond: Fallout Collector Boosters has completely outstripped the supply, causing the price of playable mechanically unique cards—even uncommon-rarity ones like Nuka-Cola Vending Machine and Silver Shroud Costume—to reach staggering heights. Fallout’s high sales have been driven by those new playables, and by alternate-art Fallout-themed reprints like Sol Ring and Crucible of Worlds.

#9 Revised Edition
Released: April 11, 1994

Revised Edition was the last Magic set that included tournament-playable copies of the 10 original dual lands (Tundra, Underground Sea, etc.), and today Revised Edition copies of these lands are the most affordable versions around. That matters, because sales of those lands spiked massively on May 17th, the day we ran our Mayhem promotion that offered buyers 10%+ back in store credit on all purchases. Apparently, the promotion successfully convinced many buyers to pull the trigger on these pricey collectibles.

#8 Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate
Released: June 10, 2022.

Battle for Baldur’s Game was considered a disappointing set when it first released, but key singles from the set have continued to sell well, especially Ancient Copper Dragon and Black Market Connections.

#7 Modern Horizons 2
Released: June 18, 2021.

As the set that introduced Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Urza’s Saga, and the entire cycle of evoke Elementals, Modern Horizons 2 has been the single most important set for Modern players for the last three years. Even the upcoming release of Modern Horizons 3 hasn’t slowed MH2 down significantly.

#6 Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
Released: June 23, 2023.

The biggest Magic set of 2023 continues to drive sales in 2024. The One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters are two of the most played cards in Modern, and with Modern Horizons 3 on the way, both cards (and their many variants) overperformed in May.

#5 Outlaws of Thunder Junction
Released: April 19, 2024.

Players generally consider Outlaws of Thunder Junction a “pushed” set with a higher-than-average proportion of strong cards, so it’s surprising to see it only at #5 on this list just a month after its release. That says more about the quality of the later sets in this list, and the breakneck pace of new Magic releases, than it does about OTJ’s popularity compared to other Standard-legal sets. Just look at Slickshot Show-Off, the bestselling OTJ card in May which is finding success in Standard, Pioneer, and Modern

#4 Commander Masters
Released: August 4, 2023.

Commander Masters has ranked well once again thanks to the enduring popularity of the Commander format. The set contains reprints of over 400 format staples, and most of those reprints are now the cheapest printings of their respective cards. If Wizards of the Coast ever reprints those cards again, we can expect the current interest in Commander Masters to transfer to the new set.

#3 Commander: Modern Horizons 3
Released: June 14, 2024.

Modern Horizons 3 hasn’t even been released yet, but it’s already claimed two of the top three spots on this list. Most of those presale dollars have been spent on sealed MH3 preconstructed Commander decks, especially Eldrazi Incursion, which has a Market Price of over $130 and climbing. The top preselling singles from the set include Talon Gates of Madara and Planar Nexus from the Tricky Terrain precon, and Ulalek, Fused Atrocity from Eldrazi Incursion.

#2 Secret Lair Drop Series
Released: December 2, 2019 - Present.

The list of Secret Lair cards grows longer with each passing year, so we can expect at least some of them to sell well every month. In May, the top-selling Secret Lair card was the Fallout-themed rainbow foil version of Mana Vault, which grew past a Market Price of $1,000 in the first week of June.

#1 Modern Horizons 3
Released: June 14, 2024.

No surprises here. We’ve been expecting Modern Horizons 3 to be the biggest Magic set of 2024, and it’s certainly off to a great start, taking the title of bestselling Magic set a month ahead of its release. Play Booster Displays and Collector Booster Displays are the top MH3 products by GMV, while the top MH3 singles by GMV include Ulamog, the Defiler and Ugin’s Labyrinth.
