The first step to serving customer demand is to understand it. So to help you follow what’s currently popular with players and collectors, we’ve put together a pair of downloadable CSV reports of the top-selling Magic: The Gathering cards of the past month.

These reports show the name and set of the Magic cards with the highest total number of copies sold on the TCGplayer Marketplace between August 1 and August 31. The reports consider cards from different sets to be distinct (even if they have the same name), but do not distinguish copies sold by condition (Near Mint, Lightly Played, etc.) or by printing (Foil, etc.).

The two reports cover cards that had an average sale price in August within two ranges: $50.00 or more, and $1.00 to $49.99.

Here are five highlights from each report.

Top Selling Magic Cards: $50 or More

#1 The One Ring (Borderless) (LTR Bundle)
Set: Unique and Miscellaneous Promos
Average Sale Price: $78.44

Just like in July, this version of The One Ring continues to be the most affordable version of Sauron’s malice made manifest, and so it’s also the fastest-selling Magic card over $50. Its price dropped in the early half of the month as players grew concerned that Wizards of the Coast could ban it in Modern in the anticipated B&R List update. When it survived the bans unscathed, its price shot right back up.

#2 Three Tree City (Borderless) (0340)
Set: Unique and Miscellaneous Promos
Average Sale Price: $51.50

Every version of Tree Three City from Bloomburrow has been selling extremely well, as the Legendary Land offers a Cabal Coffers-like effect specifically to typal decks, one of the most popular themes for Commander players to build around. But only this wintry version briefly held a Market Price over $50, making it eligible for this section of the list. Maybe players prefer the snow-covered scene because it goes better with other snow-covered lands?

#3 The One Ring
Set: Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
Average Sale Price: $97.40

The normal version of The One Ring continues to sell for the same reasons as the Borderless version: it’s one of the best cards in all of Modern and Commander. MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater has confirmed that Wizards of the Coast can reprint The One Ring and other cards from Tales of Middle-earth if necessary, but until they do (and/or until The One Ring is banned in Modern), it’ll remain a hugely desirable card.

#4 Orcish Bowmasters (Borderless)
Set: Universes Beyond: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth
Average Sale Price: $50.41

Orcish Bowmasters is the other Tales of Middle-earth card that has had an outsized impact on competitive formats, as it snipes down 1-toughness creatures with ease turn after turn. Only the Borderless version ranks here, because the regular version is still under $50 (though it’s been climbing since June).

#5 Sheoldred, the Apocalypse
Set: Dominaria United
Average Sale Price: $72.97

Sheoldred is a multi-format all-star with only one regular printing, which keeps its price high and ensures that most of its sales are all counted together. Most recently, Sheoldred has found a home in Modern Necrodominance decks, though it continues to see plenty of play in Standard, Pioneer, and Commander too.

Top Selling Magic Cards: $1.00 to $49.99

#1 Patchwork Banner
Set: Bloomburrow
Average Sale Price: $2.85

Patchwork Banner combines color fixing, mana ramp, and a typal anthem effect into one card that every Commander player wants whether they’re building around Zombies or Dragons or Zombie Dragons

#2 Caretaker’s Talent
Set: Bloomburrow
Average Sale Price: $6.57

This is the rare white card from a cycle of Class Enchantments in Bloomburrow that are strong enough for competitive play but do all the things that Commander players want to do. Caretaker’s Talent in particular offers repeatable card draw and a payoff for going wide with tokens. You don’t have to twist a Commander player’s arm to make them play tokens.

#3 Innkeeper’s Talent
Set: Bloomburrow
Average Sale Price: $17.01

The rare green member of the Bloomburrow Class cycle, Innkeeper’s Talent doubles the number of counters you put on permanents and players, like a Doubling Season that also gives your permanents ward 1. Again, it’s no surprise that Commander players want this card.

#4 Mockingbird
Set: Bloomburrow
Average Sale Price: $5.03

Players have been trying out Mockingbird in Standard, Pioneer, and Modern, and finding success in all three formats. Most of the time, a second copy of the best creature in play (with flying) is well worth the cost.

#5 Scavenger's Talent
Set: Bloomburrow
Average Sale Price: $2.00

The rare black member of the Bloomburrow Class cycle, Scavenger’s Talent rewards you for sacrificing permanents by giving you more permanents to sacrifice and more reasons to do so. “Aristocrats”-style sacrifice decks may not be quite as popular as token and counter decks in commander, but they come pretty close.
