We want you to have the best information available when you price cards on the TCGplayer Marketplace. So to help you get the most from your inventory, we’ve put together a downloadable CSV report of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that have dramatically increased in Market Price in the past 30 days.

(Note: This report only considers Near Mint copies of cards with at least five sales between June 22 and July 21, 2024.)

Here are ten highlights from that report. First, we have the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price of $5 or less.

Top 5 Price Increases—YGO Cards $5 or Less

#5 Gimmick Puppet Scissor Arms

  • Set: Number Hunters
  • Increase: +$8.89
  • Current Market Price: $13.43

The Gimmick Puppet theme got five new cards in The Infinite Forbidden, which released last weekend. The upgraded deck can deal lethal damage on the first turn of the game with a one-card combo that starts with the new Gimmick Puppet Little Soldiers.

Gimmick Puppet Scissor Arms isn’t quite as powerful a starter, but it gives the deck more ways to combo off. Since Scissor Arms was only printed once as a Super Rare back in 2013, it is now much more expensive than any of the Gimmick Puppet pieces from The Infinite Forbidden.

#4 Summoning Curse

  • Set: OTS Tournament Pack 1
  • Increase: +$9.11
  • Current Market Price: $10.01

This is the only reprint of Summoning Curse, which was first printed in Duelist Revolution as a common. It’s never seen play competitively, but speculators are betting that will change with the arrival of the World Premier theme Mimighoul in The Infinite Forbidden.

Mimighoul monsters invite players to special summon them under their opponents’ control, where they flip and wreak havoc before switching sides back to their owner. With Summoning Curse out, players can force their opponents to banish a card every time they “gift” a Mimighoul.

#3 Summoning Curse

  • Set: Duelist Revolution
  • Increase: +$9.21
  • Current Market Price: $9.73

This is the original print of Summoning Curse from 2010. Both the 1st Edition and Unlimited prints of this card have gone from pennies to $10+ apiece in anticipation of their Mimighoul synergy.

#2 Number 13: Embodiment of Crime

  • Set: Premium Gold
  • Increase: +$10.89
  • Current Market Price: $12.73

Number 13: Embodiment of Crime is another card players expect to use alongside the new Mimighoul theme in The Infinite Forbidden. As a Rank 1 Xyz monster that flips monsters face-up, it has some easy synergy with Mimighoul monsters, but it gets even stronger when summoned alongside its partner (in crime?)—which happens to be the next card on this list.

#1 Number 31: Embodiment of Punishment

  • Set: Premium Gold
  • Increase: +$11.79
  • Current Market Price: $13.64

Embodiment of Crime and Embodiment of Punishment give each other an ability that punishes opponents for attacking into them (which they also force opponents to do). Together they make a reasonable win condition for the new Mimighoul engine.

Next, these are the five cards that gained the most value in the past 30 days after starting with a Market Price over $5.

Top 5 Price Increases—YGO Cards Over $5

#5 Archnemeses Protos

  • Set: Eternity Code
  • Increase: +$15.76
  • Current Market Price: $44.40

Archnemeses sees play in Ritual Beasts, which got a big boost in power with the debut of Spiritual Beast Tamer Lara in Battles of Legend: Terminal Revenge in late June. Protos spiked soon after Terminal Legend released, and it has continued to creep up since then as Ritual Beasts has earned more wins.

#4 Terraforming (Quarter Century Secret Rare)

  • Set: Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge
  • Increase: +$17.96
  • Current Market Price: $132.14

Every deck that has a decent Field Spell plays the maximum legal copies of Terraforming (currently 1). This is the rarest and most expensive version of the card ever printed, so it’s also the most desirable option for players who want to flex on their opponents.

The Quarter Century Secret Rares in Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge peaked in price in January, but Terraforming is one of the few that has managed to rise past that peak in the subsequent months. That could reflect the wide range of decks in which it sees play.

#3 Effect Veiler (UTR)

  • Set: Duelist Revolution
  • Increase: +$18.30
  • Current Market Price: $240.23

This is one of the rarest and most collectible versions of the classic handtrap Effect Veiler, with a price to match. Its price has actually remained quite stable in 2024, but it’s so expensive that even slight shifts represent a lot of money.

#2 Herald of Perfection (UTR)

  • Set: The Shining Darkness
  • Increase: +$20.64
  • Current Market Price: $55.62

The 1st Edition printing of this Ultimate Rare card spiked after a big buyout on July 14, when the number of copies per buyer jumped from 1.0 to 25.0. The buyout hasn’t affected other versions of Herald of Perfection, which range from $20 to $1 and have been trending down for months.

#1 Dragon Master Magia (Quarter Century Secret Rare)

  • Set: Battles of Legend: Terminal Revenge
  • Increase: +$78.49
  • Current Market Price: $538.88

Dragon Master Magia just released in June and is one of the most expensive Yu-Gi-Oh! cards of 2024, thanks to its combination of nostalgic appeal (it’s Magician of Black Chaos riding Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon), power, and rarity (its only printing is a Quarter Century Secret Rare). Dragon Master Magia’s current price is down from its peak in mid-June, but during the period of this report it has managed to rally and stay above $500.
