Navigating The Lost Caverns of Ixalan and its Variants
By Janice Rivera-Pagan •It’s time to weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen, the next main booster release for Magic: The Gathering, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, is almost here! This brand new set marks a lot of upcoming changes to Magic releases, including the debut of the intramural Universes Beyond set Universes Beyond: Jurassic World Collection, as well as being one of the last releases to include both Draft Boosters and Set Boosters (for more information on this upcoming change, we recommend viewing Wizards of the Coast Introduces the Play Booster, Replacing Draft and Set Boosters).
Before we set a course for the unknown, we’ve created a complete breakdown of what you can expect when opening packs for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. To start, we’d like to go over some frequently asked questions for this release:
Q: Where can I find the exclusive Commander deck cards, the Special Guest cards, and the Jurassic World Collection cards?
A: Cards that were printed for The Lost Caverns of Ixalan will be part of the main set, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Cards that were printed exclusively for Commander and older reprints that were slotted into the Commander Decks will be found in Commander: The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, as they have a unique set abbreviation (LCC) and set symbol.
The exclusive Special Guest cards and Jurassic World Collection cards also have unique card numbers and set abbreviations. The Special Guest cards are a new addition to Magic: The Gathering releases and can be found in the Special Guests set with a (SPG) set code, whereas the Jurassic World cards are part of the mini crossover set Universes Beyond: Jurassic World Collection (REX).
Q: Why can’t I list the Buy-a-Box promotional cards, Jadelight Spelunker (Extended Art)?
A: Due to Wizards of the Coast’s Terms of Use, this card will not be available to list until release day (November 17, 2023).
Q: How can I tell if a card is a Variant Card in the Seller Portal?
A: All variant cards feature their Variant Type in parentheses after the card name. Examples of these will be (Borderless) and (Extended Art). When exporting inventory and sorting by card number, all Variants will be above card number 292 in the main set of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, and card numbers 17-68 and 101-124 for Commander: The Lost Caverns of Ixalan.

As there is no difference between the versions that are in ALL previous Promo Packs, inventorying the items where they FIRST appear helps keep new items more orderly.
