TCGplayer Generates $10 Million in Gross Merchandise Value During Record Breaking Holiday Sales Weekend: Report

As outlined in the report, during the holiday weekend spanning from Thanksgiving Eve to Cyber Monday, TCGplayer generated a record-breaking $10 million in gross merchandise value (GMV) with overall Black Friday 2021 sales volume increasing by more than 300% on a year-over-year basis.

Key Report Highlights

  • Compared to 2020 Black Friday GMV levels, Magic: The Gathering grew by more than 100%, Yu-Gi-Oh! saw a lift of almost 230% and Pokémon saw an approximately 320% increase. 
  • Overall, hobbyist traffic increased by about 80% on an annual basis with the marketplace experiencing about 12 unique product searches per second. 
  • TCGplayer Pro Sellers enjoyed a more than 70% GMV increase compared to last year while sellers using Direct by TCGplayer experienced a GMV lift of approximately 125% on average.
  • Direct by TCGplayer was used to facilitate 60% of the total products purchased on Black Friday 2021, with more than half a million cards authenticated in TCGplayer’s headquarters in Syracuse, New York. 
  • The top 10 best-selling singles by quantity for TCGplayer’s top product categories demonstrate that buyers are still searching for the latest releases, despite the slow return of in-person events.
