We released the TCGplayer Comics UPC Lookup Tool! You can either quickly scan or enter the Universal Product Code (UPC) for your comic books and our tool populates a link to the product, where you can then add the item and adjust your prices and inventory. Please note, the Comic Books UPC Lookup Tool supports most products, but there is not 100% coverage.

What is a UPC?
A UPC is a type of barcode printed on retail products that acts as a unique identifier for that item. For comic books, the 12-digit barcode on the left is the standard UPC barcode. The barcode on the right is a supplemental 2 or 5 digit barcode that identifies the issue, variant, and printing.

The first three numbers of the supplemental barcode on the right identifies the issue number, the fourth number identifies the variant number, and the fifth number identifies the printing number. See the image below for an example.

How do I scan a UPC?

The fastest and easiest way to upload inventory is with a barcode scanner. These machines can instantly read the barcode and will input the digits into the TCGplayer Comics UPC Lookup Tool for you, no typing required! From there, you can click the product link and begin adjusting your inventory. Here’s an example of a barcode scanner that will do the trick.
